Acid Reflux Symptoms

Our digestive system is probably one of the most used systems of our body as it is constantly receiving and processing food, converting it into energy to keep us going. As food enters our system, it first passes through the throat or esophagus and as it reaches the stomach, the system is prompted to release the necessary digestive juices to help churn the food.

People who have digestive problems often resort to home remedies and self-prescribe which is a bit dangerous. One of the digestive problems usually ignored is acid reflux or most commonly known as heartburn. This condition happens when acid creeps up the esophagus which results to painful sensations.

There are various types of digestion problems and gastro-esophageal reflux also called acid reflux, or in layman’s term, heartburn is probably the most common. But how would you know you are already suffering from the condition? Among the known symptoms of heartburn is burning sensation on the throat or chest, taste of bitterness or sourness or acidic taste in the mouth, coughing and panting and even sore throat.

Good thing, acid reflux can be distinctively identified. There are also things that a person should avoid doing like bending or lying down while eating or right after eating. Some people also suggest that engaging into physical activity can remove acid reflux, but unluckily, most people don’t find it effective. Taking antacids are commonly done which actually can temporarily relieve the pain.

Acid reflux can be acquired by all types of people, even infants and children. Infants may have a high possibility to have the condition but usually outgrow it. As for adults, they can have the disease by consistently going through a poor lifestyle which includes unbalanced diet, irregular mealtimes and lack of exercise.

Other things that cause acid reflux include hormonal changes during pregnancy, obesity, eating too much, eating certain foods and beverages, and taking specific medicines.

And for those who don’t have it, keep in mind that prevention is still better than cure, so one should maintain living and eating healthy.

And since acid reflux is often brought about by unbalanced and poor eating habits, maintaining a well-planned meal and eating schedules is highly suggested.
